“Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds.” The Bhagavad Gita
“You cannot lead America without loving the American people.” Donald J. Trump
Pluto may be a small planet - or not even that. Some scientists have now downgraded it to “dwarf planet” status. No matter the label, Pluto always punches above its weight, projecting mythic power as God of the Underworld, bringer of death, transformation, and rebirth. That which no longer serves us Pluto will surely destroy and repurpose for our higher good.
On November 19th, Pluto left the sign of Capricorn and entered Aquarius, where it will remain for the next two decades. (It will not return to Capricorn for another quarter millennium.) When a powerful, slow-moving planet like Pluto enters a new sign in the zodiac it typically does so with a bang. Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, coincident with the great financial collapse. It has just begun its trek through Aquarius in equally emphatic fashion amid our current cultural and political upheavals.
Capricorn, an earth sign, signifies, among other things, stability, order, and structure; centralized, hierarchical authority and organization; rules and tradition.
Aquarius, an air sign, means something quite different: Freedom and individuality; truth, independence, and innovation; rights, rebellion and revolution.
Pluto last entered Aquarius in 1777, during the American Revolution.
Death
In the United States we seem to be witnessing the decline - and prospective deaths - of many of our (Capricornian) institutions and systems. Most notably, the central government has grown corrupt, sclerotic, and spendthrift. It has pursued ideologically-driven campaigns intended to increase its hold on power, while disguising its inherent weakness and illegitimacy via alarmist rhetoric and authoritarian diktats. Most brazen of all, the government has weaponized its powers against political opponents and dissident voices via no less a force than the Department of Justice.
Meanwhile, the imperious, Orwellian, response by the expert class to the Covid epidemic has exposed their indifference to the voices and everyday well being of the common people, as it bent science to serve power and profit. The Twitter files laid bare the collusion between the regime, Big Tech, and captive media as they engaged in campaigns of censorship and propaganda. Many of our most “elite” universities have forsaken the process of education for the cudgel of indoctrination.
As Pluto completes its journey through Capricorn it is notable that the Biden Administration has been fully exposed in all its ugly, mean-spirited, and demented incompetence, not to mention disdain for the electoral process in the form of a palace coup which elevated a dunce of a candidate to run in a 100 day, $1 billion spendaholic campaign.
That candidate, meanwhile, was unable, unwilling, or simply afraid to answer a single unscripted question from the press, while resorting to softball interviews from fawning interlocutors. And her campaign resorted to greasing the palms of junk celebrities with seven figure payoffs just to get people with pulses in the door.
Transformation
Pluto’s transit into Aquarius overshadows another momentous planetary movement. Early next year Neptune, nearly as formidable a force as Pluto, will move from Pisces into Aries. This signals an equally dramatic transit as that of Pluto’s move from Capricorn to Aquarius.
Neptune, like Pluto, doesn’t come around that often. Its ponderous journey through the zodiac takes roughly 165 years. At its best, Neptune evokes the oceanic void - the transcendent and numinous, the spiritual and sacred. But it can also swing to equivalent lows: Delusion, illusion, deceit, and addiction.
Neptune is “exalted” in Pisces, the sign it rules, meaning that its power - for good or ill - is magnified. It has been in Pisces since 2011, and over that stretch we have witnessed our share of lofty intentions - reduced to base deceptions. To wit…
The Great Confection, aka the Obama administration, which effectively established the Deep State; the Steele Dossier and the Russia Collusion Hoax; suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop in concert with the 2020 election; the “transitory” nature of inflation and the pretense of a “secure” border; fake news, deep fakes, and fake vaccines; men in women’s bathrooms and boys in girls’ locker rooms, mutilation of minors posing as “gender affirming care.”
Neptune - in concert with Pluto - will bury this mad and sorry history as it moves into Aries - a sharp departure from ethereal Pisces. Mars, the god of war, rules Aries, driven by direct, take-charge energy. Mars and Aries signal action and assertiveness. In its lesser form those impulses tip over into egoic aggression.
Rebirth
The next two decades, which will encompass Pluto’s transit through Aquarius and Neptune’s passage through Aries, will witness these forceful energies in play as they reshape life from the ground up. Power will be decentralized as information is democratized and horizontal, communal networks take shape. Truth telling and accountability will replace arbitrary rule. Rather than a migration from Blue to Red, liberal to conservative, the drift will be back from the lunatic fringe to common sense. Expertise asserted by credential will yield to pragmatism proven by personal agency.
What we are currently seeing, as Donald Trump assembles his Cabinet, is reminiscent of the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia when the populace, so disgusted by the depredations of their self-appointed elites, catapulted dissident outsiders to power through popular will and acclaim. (When the status quo is so bad why not have a thoughtful playwright run the country.)
The dead enders in our now failing institutions will scoff, and protest that this new guard is not expert, and therefore dangerous. Yet by contrast, they are intelligent, committed, and sincere citizens - not careerist hacks and crony grifters - who intend to bring considered thought and creative action to the job.
When the dust settles the Biden administration will be revealed, by contrast, as one of the most duplicitous and destructive administrations in U.S. history, with added emphasis supplied by the “big guy” himself as he heads out the door. Biden’s cynical, kitchen-sink pardon of his son is really a self pardon, a legal firewall thrown up to shield his corrupt doings from future culpability. Put another way: A mockery of the law and one last F U to the American people.
Coda
It is perhaps worth noting that Neptune last entered Aries in April, 1861, at the beginning of the American Civil War. That war was fought to end slavery and unify a divided country. If history does indeed rhyme then this time around the conflict will hopefully be bloodless - and the destruction creative - as the people seek liberation from the tyranny suffered and endured over the past four years.
